Homage to Trainspotting.

Around this time, 20 years ago I was sat in the wonderful Cameo Cinema with my then girlfriend (and now wife), waiting for the start of a film which would define a generation.  A generation of Edinburgh druggies anyway.  Trainspotting is 20 effin’ years old!!

I was new to Edinburgh and Trainspotting was my introduction to typical Edinburgh life.  I was somewhat disappointed to discover that not everyone in the city fell into the one of the brilliantly colourful character types of the main protagonists.   There are some streets in Morningside and Dean Village devoid of emaciated, dirty Converse wearing, borderline psychotic, heroin addicted ne’er do wells.  My aim is to draw my Edinburgh clientèle from those enclaves.   I would be more than a little nervous to cover Begbie’s big day.

A lot of you would have been too young to see Trainspotting when first released in cinemas.  I hope though that, at the first appropriate opportunity,  your parent, guardian, warden or keeper sat you down in front of the old cathode ray tube and shared with you this tale of a charming band of hapless rapscallions and their daring do’s, comical heists, intravenous drug use and extravagant bed shitting.

Not only is the film “pure class ya rocket” it also gave us this.

I think the word you are looking for is ……TUNE!!!!

I’m unsure how wise it is ( in a business sense) to touch on the subject of IV drug use and anal incontinence on a wedding blog and I didn’t even mention the under-age sex and extreme violence. However, if you see past all this then perhaps I may be just the kind of photographer to shoot your wedding (and not your dog, in the arse, with an air rifle).

So many of his songs are about guns, shooting, fighting, biting ears off, drinking, sex and cars but today we learn the great Johnny Cash also had a softer side.  It has been decided by some random poll created by folk with little else to do, that a Letter he wrote to his wife June is the best love letter ever written.

Johnny Cash love letter

Johnny Cash wrote this letter to June on her birthday.

Although better than my own, his hand writing is a bit of a scrawl so here it is.

Happy Birthday Princess,

We get old and get use to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.

But once in awhile, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.

Happy Birthday Princess.

I have to say though, my favourite is this one from Jimi Hendrix.

“little girl…..

happiness is within you….so unlock the chains from your heart and let yourself grow—
like the sweet flower you are…..
I know the answer—
Just spread your wings and set yourself

Love to you forever

Jimi Hendrix”

Kinda makes my occasional mushy text messages seem a bit crap now.  Thanks Jimi.

The last time I saw Lucie and Tommy was on a shoot/pub crawl in London.  They “dragged” me round some of their favourite pubs and some of their favourite east end and square mile locations.   I fell asleep on the tube on the way back to Heathrow.

Anyway, they are my kinda couple.  Pretty relaxed (on the surface anyway) while still having a firm idea of what they want and quite non-traditional in a traditional sort of way, if you know what I mean.  They chose a classic country house for their wedding,  Harburn House, and decorated it to look stunning but omitted any of the really stuffy pomp in favour of riotous fun, the widest variety of alcohol I have seen at a reception and possibly the cheekiest speeches I have witnessed in over two hundred weddings.  Plus, Lucie has that smile!!

You may remember Claire and Chris from some photos of their London pre-wedding shoot which I showed on facebook a while ago.  Well late March brought me a quick burl up to Callander for their wedding day at Roman Camp Hotel.

Another lovely, relaxed, smiley and super happy day which was great fun to capture.

Remember last year when my “spot the Cream Egg” contest made headlines throughout the developed world  (search for “Mcbeth photography cream egg pimp” if you don’t believe me)?  Well it’s back by popular demand.  Yes, once more I am giving one lucky (and soon to be fat) person 48 cream eggs.   That’s enough for one a day for approximately 48 days.  Enough to scatter on your bed and roll around on.

All you need to do is search this blog and find the little f****R.  Once you know where it is email me and if you are right (be mad if you were wrong) your name will be entered in to the grand Cream Egg draw to be made on Easter Sunday (whenever that is).

Good luck intrepid egg hunters.

Here is something a little different from me.
Some of you may know that I have been experimenting with video for a wee while. Well here is an idea I have been working on which I hope, if the response is positive, to offer to my future clients as well as other couples.
I really need to thank Jasmin and Dave for being my Guinea Pigs. Also the Guinea Pig for being my Guinea Pig.
Hope you like it, your opinions are appreciated.
